I have an associate degree, am I a transfer student?

Yes! Your associate degree path will likely meet the 12-credit minimum for applying to finish your bachelor’s degree online from UW-Madison and because it is from another college/university, that makes you a transfer student.

Then what happens after I apply?

Your application will be reviewed by the Office of Admissions, and you’ll receive notice of your admission status within a couple weeks. If admitted, your college credits are then evaluated for transferability and can be found in your Student Portal.

I’ve achieved a lot in my life and always finished things that I started. [Getting a bachelor’s degree] was a big hole I wanted to fill. It’s so much easier now that I’m back in school and in classes to take those learnings and apply them. It’s super motivating.

I’m not a transfer student. I’m a returning student or a new undergrad, what we call a “reentry student” and “first-year student” on our admissions website.
