Tailgate celebrates transfer partnership – and a Badger win
On a picture-perfect fall day, dozens of people gathered at a tailgate party on the Nicolet College campus in the Northwoods to cheer on the Wisconsin Badgers and celebrate a new opportunity: Nicolet College students who complete their liberal arts degree and meet requirements have guaranteed admission to UW–Madison Online to earn a bachelor’s degree.
While watching the game on big screens at the Lakeside Center on October 19, guests enjoyed tailgate snacks, Badger songs by the Rhinelander Community Band, games and giveaways. Children, families, Badger alums, students and staff from UW–Madison and Nicolet enjoyed some Jump Around moments and made new connections.
They also heard about the new partnership from UW–Madison and Nicolet College leaders.
“There is a reason why one of the university’s first transfer partnerships for online degrees is happening right here at Nicolet College,” said Dr. Maya Evans, internal education consultant and program director of UW–Madison Online. “We believe that the people of Wisconsin should have access to the depth and breadth of high-quality education that is available in the state and that is represented, in part, by our amazing institutions, Nicolet College and the University of Wisconsin–Madison.”
Qualifying Nicolet College students can transfer at least 60 credits to UW–Madison Online to earn a bachelor’s degree in marketing, human resources or management entirely online from the top-ranked Wisconsin School of Business.
“These degrees are going to prepare our graduates to strengthen our workforce, and they’re going to serve as additional resources for our employers,” said Nicolet College President Kate Ferrel. “With skills from these degrees, graduates will help our businesses and economy in the Northwoods thrive. Best of all, students are going to be able to stay here. They can use their skills to serve families, communities and businesses that they love so dearly.”
Gary Zarda, dean of University Transfer, Liberal Arts and Science at Nicolet, said the partnership was personal to him as a first-generation college student: “The notion of equality and equity for students in our region, it means something to me. It is in the Nicolet College mission statement that we are here to serve the people of northern Wisconsin, and this agreement continues in that tradition.”
As the tailgaters waved pom-poms and cheered, the Badgers beat the Northwestern Wildcats 23-3.
